[ARCHIVED] Dallas Park and Recreation Board Supports COVID-19 Vaccine Efforts

Covid Vaccine

The Dallas Park and Recreation Board today passed a resolution supporting the national, state and local efforts to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to all eligible individuals. In addition, the Park Board suggests and recommends  that city park and recreation professionals and their families get the vaccine to stay healthy and slow the lessen the virus’ spread to prevent further infections.

Responding to the Board’s endorsement of the resolution, Arun Agarwal, President, Dallas Park and Recreation Board, said, “Dallas Park and Recreation Department professionals understand the importance of staying healthy. Every day, they are in our communities promoting health and wellness activities to park and facility users through fitness programs, nutrition education and encouraging play outdoors. As a Board, we encourage employees and their families to get vaccinated. We need them to be safe so they can keep our communities safe. If even one additional person gets vaccinated, then we have done our part in protecting and bringing families and communities together.”

This is the first resolution passed by the Park Board to support the collaborative activities of area healthcare agencies, community groups, nonprofits, and other organizations to address this pressing public health issue that affects residents and their communities as well as frontline Dallas Park and Recreation employees who are providing them with health and well-being programs and services.

Increasing a community’s and family’s health and well-being through unique park and recreation programs is one of three National Recreation and Park Association pillars – or guiding values. Dallas Park and Recreation’s COVID-19 response to local vaccine dissemination efforts have included hosting vaccination clinics, transporting senior adults to satellite immunization sites, and sharing vaccine location sites and other COVID-19 resources with communities.
