Cedar Crest Golf Course - Temporary Closure
We regret to inform you that we will be temporarily closing the course on Friday July 1, 2022 and re-opening on Monday, October 1, 2022.
Over the last month, Cedar Crest Golf Course has experienced difficulties with growing-in and maintaining adequate Bermuda grass coverage on the greens. This is a result of an infestation of Poa Annua, an invasive and chemically resistant turfgrass pest. To combat this infestation, staff decided to close the course for two weeks to over seed the greens with the intent being to provide a quality putting surface until the Bermuda grass began to grow. Unfortunately, this action did not address the infestation and the turf conditions have continued to decline.
Park staff have contacted turf specialists and agronomists in the region to develop a plan to replace the greens over the next six to eight weeks. This process requires the closure of the golf course beginning July 1, 2022, and then a series of actions need to be taken in order to remove the infected turf and replant with Tif-Eagle greens turf and reopen the course by October 1, 2022.
Tif-Eagle is a premier ultra-dwarf Bermuda grass and its dense growing characteristics not only will provide a high-quality putting surface but will also help deter the possibility of future Poa Annua infestations. The City of Dallas is also working with the United States Golfer Association to bolster our agronomic practices and prevent future interruptions in your golfing experience.
We would like to extend our deepest apologies for any inconveniences this closure may cause, and we humbly request your understanding and thank you greatly for your support. Our remaining 5 courses are still open and available for scheduling tee times.
We look forward to being of service to you in the very near future.
